Allie Horwitz

Allie (she/they) is an attorney on the Litigation team at the AARP Foundation (AFL) in Washington, D.C. With the team at AFL, Allie engages in impact litigation in a variety of areas, including housing, benefits, and healthcare, with a special emphasis on seniors with marginalized identities, particularly LGBTQ+ older adults. Prior to her work at AFL, Allie worked as a public defender in both the DC metro area and in her home region of New England, where she represented hundreds of clients throughout their cases and worked hard to fight against the criminal punishment system.

Outside of work, Allie finds joy in outdoor adventures including camping, hiking, and biking alongside her partner and their dog. She plays soccer in a local gender inclusive league and sits on an advisory board for Soccer Without Borders, a youth development nonprofit focused on inclusion and equity. She graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and holds a B.A. in Psychology from Amherst College.

The ND LGBTQIA2S+ Summit is an organization that is fiscally sponsored by the North Dakota Human Rights Coalition (NDHRC). The NDHRC is a statewide, membership-based organization established to increase the visibility of human rights needs and violations and to change laws and attitudes that stand as barriers to residents within North Dakota who do not currently enjoy their full rights. North Dakota Human Rights Coalition is a registered 501(c)(3) organization.
